Masterson’s Pub , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my recent visit at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I experienced behind its walls was disgraceful and unfit for any venue.
The State of Affairs: Squalid and Abandoned
From the moment I entered , it was immediately obvious that sanitation was not a priority at this venue. The floorboards were filthy, and a overpowering stench of uncleaned spills and filthy restrooms filled the entire establishment . Smelling a mixture of ammonia , a rotting odor and sickness . The bar area , which should be the main attraction of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and debris that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The restroom was in even more deplorable shape — clogged , with a broken handle and walls stained in what I can only assume was human waste .
It wasn’t just a rare instance either. Going through other patrons’ reviews and chatting with the community, it seems that the quality of upkeep (or lack thereof) at this pub is a well-known flaw . Many guests have reported seeing bugs darting across the drink station and evidence of rodent infestations in the check source bar and house area . For a business that caters to patrons, these issues are entirely inappropriate and raise serious concerns about the integrity of their products .
